"A 1999 Journal of the American Medical Association study found that women occupationally exposed to organic solvents, such as factory workers, lab technicians and graphic designers, have a 13-fold increased chance of giving birth to a child with a major defect, including heart valve dysfunction, soft larynx cartilage, small penises and deafness. It was found that solvent-exposed women also suffered more miscarriages, and their babies had lower birth weights. Major components in lighter fluid, spot removers, aerosol sprays, paints, glues, cleaners and solvents—like so much else—can readily pass through the placenta to the fetus. " -- emagazine.com |
I had no idea that working as a graphic designer in pre-press was going to cause problems when I got pregnant in 1997. I left when I was 4 months pregnant, my partner and I were concerned about toxic chemical exposure. I spent the rest of my pregnancy at home, having difficulty digesting foods I ate, and overall lost weight during my pregnancy. My son was born normal weight (8lbs 7oz), on-time, with an excellent APGAR, but I continued to decline in health and my milk failed. It took over a year for me to recover. I got pregnant at about 160lbs, gave birth at around 150lbs, and continuted to drop weight to about 120lbs after giving birth.
Now my son is both extremely intelligent, and has problems. He is in Special Ed for poor impulse control and difficulty with social integration. His first signs of problems were poor fine motor control, and he is still in Occupational Therapy over 5 years later for handwriting delays. His mathematical skills are exemplary. He could be on the Autism spectrum, perhaps Asperger's Syndrome, but it doesn't quite fit either. He does have the capacity for abstract and creative thinking that is usually not seen in Asperger's cases. Doctors have labeled him brilliant and gifted through ADHD and in need of medication, without a proper differential diagnosis, and that makes me furious. While looking for a good psychologist who will actually take the time to see all the facets of behavior in my child, I've decided to try some nutritional products to help my son develop to his full potential. That's why I started using these products. I could not trust fish oil from any other company -- I needed a company that would screen strongly for toxins, especially mercury, which could make his symptoms worse.
My passion and my vision is to build a future for myself and my family where doing what is right is Always feasible.
The founder of Your Green Club, Criss Ittermann, has been an herbalist since 1991. Criss is also a Reiki healer, and pays attention to many other healing modalities, nutrition, biology, alternative health, and problems with the current medical and pharmaceutical industries. She's always been an ecological activist.
Tired of huge manufacturers who are only concerned about making money and "going green" only because they know it will bring them more money, Criss stumbled upon an industry that has been green -- keeping it's impact on the environment low -- for over 50 years. They created the first earth-friendly biodegradable cleaning product in 1960.
Criss struggled with finding green cleaning products that were inexpensive AND effective. These products work, with independent studies, side-by-side comparisons, and tons of anecdotal evidence to back them up. So these are not only environmentally friendly products, they're the TOP environmentally friendly products, time and time again.
Criss likes using the vitamin and herbal supplements for herself and her family, the eco-friendly cleaning products that actually clean while sparing her family's health, beauty products that rejuvenate her skin and hair, and the organic waist-loss plan that's working so well it's one of the best kept secrets out there.
